On 2 April 2024 His Honour Judge Jan Luba KC retired as a Senior Circuit Judge. He was called to the Bar in 1980, took Silk in 2000 and was elected a Bencher in 2009. He was appointed a Recorder in 2000, a Circuit Judge in 2015 and a Senior Circuit Judge in 2019. He served as the Designated Civil Judge for London from 2019 to 2024.

Jan has written or contributed to many of the key housing law books for practitioners: Defending Possession Proceedings; Repairs: tenants’ rights; and Housing Allocation and Homelessness; founded and wrote with HH Nic Madge (and later wrote with Sam Madge-Wyld) the monthly column ‘Recent developments in housing law’ in Legal Action; and founded and wrote for many years the Housing Law Week newsletter.
